With more people trying to sell items door to door from double glazing through to raffle tickets for the local church through to sponsorships for charity runs, I was astonished the other day to hear the man ask me if I had any old mobile phones lying around so that I could donate to charity. It turns out that for every mobile phone handset that they get given, the charity receives just £1 for the phone, surely these phones are worth more then that? So I set about find out the ‘true worth’ of my old mobile phones.
I then researched some more about mobile phone recycling and i came across a great site that helped me to learn more about the process as well as what happens with the phone when i recycle them. I am happy and will not donate any more to charity as I could have got £37 for the one i did! Since I found out this I’ve been hunting down my old mobiles and sending them into Fonebank as they seem to give the most for the old phones I have when i searched on recyclemobilephones.co.uk. They also have a TV commercial, which is very good.
On some of my phones I had some sensitive data but after emailing FoneBank they sent me instructions through about how I could remove all my personal information from the phones before I sent them in, which made me feel much better and is a testament to how good Fone bank really are. The reviews I have read also seen positive, has anyone else ever used a program to recycle their old mobile phones?
